The City Manager of the Year award is sponsored by the Tennessee City Management Association as a peer recognition program to acknowledge Tennessee city managers/administrators who have made exceptional contributions to the profession or to their city. The award is presented annually at the Tennessee Municipal League annual conference.

The Assistant City Manager of the Year award is sponsored by the Tennessee City Management Association as a peer recognition program for outstanding service by an assistant city manager. The award is presented bi-annually, commencing in 2022 and every two years thereafter, at the Tennessee Municipal League annual conference.

Who Is Eligible?


Any TCMA member serving as manager or administrator in a Tennessee city may be nominated, except for the TCMA president or a member of the Nomination and Recognition Committee. The nomination of an aforementioned members will not be accepted.
Who Are the Judges and How Are the Nominees Judged?


Nominees are evaluated by the Nomination and Recognition Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Significant achievements made within the scope of their regular duties.
  • Special contributions made outside of their routine responsibilities.
  • Length of service to the municipality.
  • Demonstration of outstanding initiative, perseverance, or dedication to the profession or their city.

Who Is Eligible?

Any TCMA member serving as assistant city manager/administrator, deputy city manager/administrator, or assistant to the city manager/administrator in a Tennessee city may be nominated, except for the TCMA president or a member of the Nomination and Recognition Committee. The nomination of an aforementioned members will not be accepted.




Who Are the Judges and How Are the Nominees Judged?


Nominees are evaluated by the Nomination and Recognition Committee based on the following criteria:

  • Significant achievements made within the scope of their duties.
  • Contributions made above and beyond their routine responsibilities.
  • Length of service to the municipality and within the profession of local government management.
  • Contributions to TCMA and public service.
  • Demonstration of outstanding leadership, initiative, perseverance, creativity, and dedication in service to their community.
  • Clear commitment to the ideal of public service and to local government.
  • Other contributions to the community.

 



How May I Nominate Someone?


A nomination must include the endorsement of the city manager/administrator to be considered.
